A wedding card with a money pocket — how to choose

At a Polish wedding the gift is customarily banknotes — and everyone knows it. Even so, handing over a bare bank-branded envelope looks like delivering a utility bill. A wedding card with a money pocket resolves that dissonance: the gift stays practical, the gesture becomes personal. There are three forms to choose from.

Form one: the pocket card

A classic wedding card with a sewn-in or glued-in pocket for banknotes. Looks like an elegant card, works like an envelope — the couple takes the notes out and keeps the card. The safest choice when you do not know the couple closely. My price: €28–35.

Form two: the money box

A rigid, decorated box with a compartment for banknotes and room for wishes. A stronger gesture — a box stands rather than lies, and usually ends up somewhere visible. A good choice for godparents, witnesses and close family. Price: €35–51.

Form three: the exploding box

A box that, once the ribbon is untied, unfolds into a dimensional composition: tiers, flowers, photos, pockets — with the banknotes hidden inside. The questions one does not ask out loud

How much to give? The Polish custom: cover your plate and add a gift — in 2026 that means roughly €100–120 for a distant acquaintance, €140–190 for a friend, €230+ for close family and witnesses. A guide, not a price list; no decent person counts.

How to sign? On the card — the couple's names and the date (that personalisation is included with my cards), inside — your wishes and signature. The sentiments on the cards themselves are in Polish, as tradition expects.

Fresh banknotes or not? Crisp ones look better in the pocket, but it is a detail. More important: no coins. Really.

When to order
